Ever feel like everyone else is just so lucky?
I mean if we watch their feeds, everyone else’s life is full of rainbows and unicorns. Booked over here. Incredible travel over there. Won a bunch of money playing scratchers and now they’re driving a new car. Well, OK, maybe not that one.
No matter how we feel, or how it appears...none of that happened overnight and they're not simply lucky.
They are great at creating luck.
And you can create luck too.
I just listened to an awesome Mel Robbins podcast.
She was interviewing Dr. Tina Seelig. Dr. Seelig has a PhD in the science of neuroplasticity, studying leadership, success, neuroscience, and luck!
She says “Luck is a long game”. See, you have to put yourself out there and take risks to create the right conditions for luck. And once isn't enough. The people who are really good at creating luck take risks over and over again. So, yeah, you need to do stuff. Take a chance! A client told me years ago to do the stuff that scares you, and I've tried to live by that (within reason), but some things I've really stalled out on.
I’ve written about finally starting to market my VO business. It’s awkward. I hate feeling pushy.
But I’ve been taking the risk.
Know, what? Less than 20 connections in…a positive response! And you bet I felt lucky! But, I never would have encountered that man had I not taken a little risk. I made that luck!
What’s the best part of getting lucky? I feel like maybe I’ll get lucky again! My favorite quote from the episode is: “We are always one decision away from a completely different life.”
Think about that. If you can endure just a tiny bit of discomfort, you could change everything. Everything. You want a change? Time to take risks and get to creating luck!
Dr.Seelig has a book out that sounds like it's worth a read. It's called “What I Wish I Knew About Luck” and yeah, it’s on my list!
