The Day Before Everything changes in your VO Business

I read an interview with Bob Odenkirk on Knockturnal. Did you know he was broke right before he landed the role of Saul Goodman on Breaking Bad?

Think about that.

He was at, pretty much, the lowest point a person can be, and life turned around in an instant.

Success is funny like that. Sometimes you’re shouting into the void. And then, BANG! Everything changes.

It can be tough to keep plodding ahead when you feel like there's no feedback. No validation.

But you have to stick with it if you're going to see the rewards.I mean, just imagine what might have happened if Bob was a no show at the Breaking Bad audition?

Every audition reinforces what you’ve learned up to this point. Posts can lead to valuable engagement. Exploring new genres broadens your horizons.

In the interview Bob said, “But you just hang in there. You show up every day, stay in shape, don’t get bitter."

And indulge in a little self care. This weekend, know what I did? I blew off work on Saturday. Yup. I stewarded an obedience and a rally trial. It was glorious!

I stewarded for one of my very favorite judges, learned new things about scoring, and cheered for the happy qualifiers. I even let him in on the secret that I aspire to be a judge one day and his response wasn't just positive. He took me under his wing for the day and happily explained the finer points of judging and gladly answered questions. I admitted my truth and found everything changes.

My heart is light. My outlook is positive. And I came into a new week with some pep in my step.

I have renewed focus and determination, and it's all because I stopped and gave myself a day to live in the joy.

Bob’s advice: “Make something new. Believe in your dream a little bit more. And along the way, things will come together.”

Ya know…Bob and his friend, David Cross, just climbed Machu Picchu. They climbed. Machu. Picchu. They even made a movie about it. Think about that. They didn’t sit at home, living on past successes. They climbed a freaking mountain.

Go find your Machu Picchu and start climbing. Because everything changes.
